It’s almost time to go back to school. While you are thinking about getting the kids ready for the upcoming school year, it can also be a good time to get your photos organized, since you will most likely be adding a bunch more in the near future.
You can group your photos by event or chronologically, whichever suits you needs best. Go through the photos looking for those that you like the most and discarding those that are too blurry or beyond hope. Remember though, that there are certain photo problems (like red-eye, composition and other retouching) that can be fixed with today’s photo editing software, so if you are not sure, contact us and we can help.
If you photos are printed out, use acid-free albums or boxes to organize them until you are ready to do a project. Make sure to store the negatives with the photos in an acid-free negative sleeve without bending them so they are available if you need reprints.
If you photos are digital, make sure they get downloaded from your camera and backed-up. When you download them, try to tag the photos you like the best and use keywords so you can find them quickly. After you have downloaded the photos, be sure to back them up from your computer. This could be on a CD-ROM or even an online photo storage site. If there are photos you really like, you may want to print them out so you have them. Then you can add them to an acid-free album like above.
Once you have the previous photos organized, make sure you do the same for the incoming photos this school year.
