The are moments in your life that you remember forever. It was a plane ride to go visit colleges and the pilot asked if we wanted to see the statue of liberty. The few of us on board said yes, so the pilot flew us in a wide circle around her. Although not super close, she was still amazing. Her majestic torch held high in the air as a beacon to all that this is a place of freedom. What an magical experience it was. One that filled a typical teenager with a new sense of pride in her country and the fact that I was a part of something so much larger than myself. It opened my eyes to the country as a whole, not just the little piece of it I lived in all my life. It was definitely a different time and place back then, but I’m thankful I got to see Lady Liberty in her glory. And no picture will ever do her or this memory justice.
